Born 06/29/2020 Hattie delivered five big, healthy puppies on June 29, 2020; 3 handsome boys and two beautiful girls.
In celebration of the July 4th holiday, the theme for this litter is "Let Freedom Ring!" The AKC registered names for these puppies will all include the word "Free". In the meantime, we've nicknamed the puppies: Ellis, George, Rebel, Belle, and Liberty. |
Visitors Welcome!
Hattie's family welcomes visitors to meet Hattie and the puppies at their home in Northville, MI. In lieu of the coronavirus, visits will be outside and will be scheduled for one family at a time. To arrange a visit, contact Ann at ann.ryan@gmail.com.

Week 6 Update
A Frenzy of Friends!
Puppies had many visitors this week and love being held and petted by anyone. They're the biggest attraction in our neighborhood and are becoming little social butterflies! We're happy to see them greeting everyone as friends.

Week 5 Update
At five weeks of age, puppies are engaging in lots of rough and tumble puppy play. Those sharp little puppy teeth flying!g.
Dining Etiquette Improving!
Their dining etiquette has noticeably improved. Most of the time, they no longer find it necessary to GET IN the food bowl! But the water bowl is still a tempting wading pool.

Those nasty sharp little puppy teeth have arrived and puppies are starting to use them on anything and everything. It's time for bite inhibition lessons to begin! The puppies' first lesson comes from mama; if they bite her to hard she'll back them off in an instant in no uncertain terms. It only takes one lesson from mama for puppies to learn not to bite her again! Their next lessons come from littermates; when one puppy bites too hard, the other puppy stops playing so they will begin to learn that their fun ends when they get too rough. We're also letting puppies bite our hands while we hold them (ouch!) and will gradually accept less pressure from their teeth before the petting session ends. |

Week 3 Update
The puppies were 3 weeks old on July 20th and all weigh over 3 pounds now. They're up and walking, getting steadier on their little paws, and are starting to engage in puppy play with one another.
Puppy Visitors
The puppies have had a steady stream of visitors, lots of children, and loved to be held and cuddled. We'll see how the children like playing with the puppies in another week when their sharp little puppy teeth come in. Goodbye sweet puppies... hello little pirahnas!
Puppies Take Over!
The puppies have graduated from their whelping box and their space has now taken over the entire room. They have a comfy area for sleeping, a play area, and a potty area.
Puppies are learning to go potty on a crate pan with cat litter in it. They're starting to get the idea that there is a place to go potty and places not to potty; an important concept for them to learn in preparation for house training when they go to their forever homes. |

Week 2 Update
The Let Freedom Ring puppies were two weeks old on July 13th They all weigh right around two pounds and are all vigorous, thriving puppies.
Sniff- Sniff... What's that I smell? Before puppies' eyes are open, they can't see or hear, but they can smell! We stimulate their olfactory senses by introducing a variety of smells into their litter box. This week the puppies got their first sniff of peanuts, lemons, rosemary, vinegar, cheese, and tomato. Cheese seemed to be their favorite, with lemon a close second.

Hello World!
The puppies' eyes and ears have opened and they're beginning to explore the world around them. Toys have been added to their whelping pen to give them new things to discover and obstacles to climb over.
We try to make all kinds of household sounds when we're around them to de-sensitize them to noises and we play cd's of all kind of sounds that we can't recreate for them at home. . |
We're BIG Dogs Now... We Can Walk!
Puppies took their first steps and are now up and about, learning to walk. They're not too coordinated yet, but they practice their new-found mobility between naps and get better every day. Soon they'll be running all over the place and climbing out of their whelping box. Uh oh... trouble is about to begin!

Puppy Visitors
Puppy visitors are welcomed to help the puppies get accustomed to being handled by a variety of people. We're being cautious with indoor visits because of the coronavirus, but in another two weeks when puppies are old enough to go outside, they'll have lots of new people to meet.

Week 1 Update
Newborn puppies nurse every two hours so neither mama Hattie or her people have much time for sleep! This is Hattie's first litter and she jumped into motherhood with all 4 paws! She's very attentive to her babies and doesn't want to leave them for a minute. We're very thankful that Hattie is being an excellent mother. It takes a good mother to raise good puppies! |
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)
Puppies began receiving ENS this week and will continue to receive it daily for the next two weeks. ENS consists of five exercises performed for five seconds each that stimulate neurons in the puppy's brain. The procedure is used by the U.S. Military for puppies who will enter their training programs. ENS has been statistically proven to improve a puppy's overall health, intelligence, and trainability.
"Hey, what are you doing to my babies!" Hattie watches closely as exercises are performed.
Cuteness Overload!
These little puppies are just too cute; it's hard to take our eyes off of them!

Meet the Puppies!
Puppies are born with very pink noses and little pink paws. It's such fun to watch these babies grow and change from week to week. Soon the pink will be replaced by white, noses will start to turn black, and the white markings on puppy faces, head, and neck will diminish.
