The Birds 'n Bees!
We've named this litter after signs of spring...  "The Birds 'n Bees"!   We've nicknamed each of them after the name of a bird or a bee and will  ask their new families to include the name of a bird or a bee in their AKC registered names.

Seven Week Puppy Update

Picture
This will be the last of the weekly puppy updates for the Birds 'n Bees.  At seven  weeks of age, the puppies weigh between 12-15 pounds.   I'm sometimes asked to choose a BIG puppy or a LITTLE puppy for a family but that's something I cannot do.  The size of an 8 week old puppy is no indication of his adult size.  Sometimes the smallest puppy grows to be the largest dog in a litter and vice-versa.  There's no way to predict adult size.

Next week the puppies will be preparing to go to their forever homes.   They'll be evaluated for structure and temperament by Pat Hastings on Tuesday evening, June 9th.  On Wednesday they'll go to the vet for their health check-up and get their  first Parvo/Distemper immunization and their microchips.   Thursday will be puppy spa day... puppies will get a pawdicure and be bathed, fluffed and puffed to get ready to go to their new homes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

It's a bittersweet time when our puppies leave us.  We get so attached to every precious little puppy.   But the puppies make it easier to say good-bye when they look at us with pleading eyes as if to say "Pick me up, Pick me!".    They're craving the individual attention that we cannot give them and they really need to be with a loving family of their own.   "If you love them let them go"...  applies to puppies too.

What... The Whole World Isn't Soft?
This week the puppies enjoyed exploring different surfaces in the great outdoors.  They had fun running through the grass but came to a halt when they encountered the macadam driveway.... "What.. the whole world isn't soft on my little paws?"  They also discovered concrete, stones, pebbles, and mulch.   The pebbles and mulch adventure didn't go well... puppies like to eat pebbles and mulch.

The Stone Mountain Challenge!
Puppies' proved that they are real mountain dogs by conquering the challenge of climbing a stone mountain.   It may look like a small pile of stones to you, but to a little puppy, it's a mountain!

Boxer Puppies?
I wonder if these puppies have boxer genes?  They sure have fun with boxes!  Such a simple thing, yet so much fun for puppies.  They enjoyed hours of play and lots of puppy antics with cardboard boxes.  First they couldn't figure out out how to get in the box.  Then they got stuck in the box and couldn't figure out how to get out.   It's fun to watch their little puppy brains try to resolve the problem.    Left to their own devices, they always figure it out eventually.    Then they eat the boxes.

The Puppy Plunge Adventure!
The puppies' doggy paddling skills were put to the test when they went for a swim in the big pool.   Swissies are usually excellent swimmers but they don't take to the water naturally.  They have to be taught to like to swim.   The Birds 'n Bees did great on their first swim; no one became frantic and they were all good swimmers.

The reality of having only a few days left with my puppies is settling in.  It's a bittersweet time.   We become so attached to our puppies;  it's so hard to say good-bye
